Ultrasonic Monitoring of Barrel Wear



Barrel wear can be evaluated by measuring the distance between the high temperature ultrasonic transducer (indicated as UT in the lower left figure) and the internal barrel wall via the measurement of the time delay between two consecutive echoes L1 and L2 (lower left and right figures) reflected from the internal barrel wall.

Implementation at the pumping zone of 30-mm twin screw extruder. The UT is sol-gel sprayed piezoelectric film.
